If you’re planning to attend the commencement ceremony in Shanghai, the following checklist will help assure that you have an enjoyable and memorable day with your graduate. To find out how to enjoy the event via webstream, visit the Ceremony information page.
Graduates are able to apply for up to four guaranteed Family Tickets during January and February of their Senior Year, and enter a ballot for extra tickets that will be allocated in March.
Please note: Tickets will not be mailed. Your graduate will be invited to collect their Family Tickets on campus a week before the ceremony. All guests must have a ticket to enter the Hall. Children under the age of 7 will not be admitted. There will be a live screening of the ceremony in the Academic Building in Shanghai and online for family and friends who cannot make it to the event.
Set Dates For Your Visit
If you are planning to visit your graduate for longer than commencement day, consider making arrangements with them for the week after the ceremony, as the week before will be busy and they are also likely to want to attend farewell celebration events with friends.
Apply For Visa
International guests should check with their local Chinese embassy or consulate whether a visa is required for their visit and apply in good time.
For most countries, a hotel booking and flight itinerary is all you need to apply for a visa, and a letter of invitation is not necessary. However, should this be required, your graduate has a residence permit so you should list them as your contact. If the consulate is asking for a letter of invitation, please email firstname.lastname@example.org with the request including a scanned copy of the guest's passport page.
Please be advised that NYU Shanghai cannot offer visa advice. If you would like assistance with your application, please consult your local travel agent or an international visa agency such as CIBT.
If you need somewhere to stay in Shanghai, start by checking out the city’s Official Travel Information website for details of hotels and restaurants.
