Graduate Checklist

Get Ready...

Congratulations on reaching the final stage of your journey at NYU Shanghai! As an upcoming graduate, here’s what you need to know - and do - to get ready for the big day:

Check Eligibility and Apply for Graduation

In order to receive your diploma and walk in the commencement celebration, all eligible students should apply for graduation with the Office of the Registrar BEFORE December 13, 2016. Please note that your Degree Audit Sheet must be up-to-date and you are responsible for showing on it that you will have fulfilled 128 credits by the end of Spring 2017 and completed all degree requirements. If you have any questions about completing all academic requirements, please contact your Academic Advisor.

Students who are close to graduating in May 2017 may still walk in the ceremony, but will not receive a diploma. Contact to be added to the Ceremony List.

Get Your Tickets

Your Commencement and Events tickets will be ready for collection on Wednesday, May 17 from the Student Life Office in 110 from 10am to 5pm.

You will receive a packet that includes:

  • Your total allocated Commencement tickets for your family/guests. You do NOT need a ticket.

  • Family/Guest Access Card for the Academic Building for May 27 and 28.

  • Tickets for the Dean’s and Faculty Morning Tea on Saturday, May 27 (the same number of tickets as your commencement allocation).

  • 3 tickets for the Pearl Tower Send Off (your ticket + 2 guest tickets).

If you do NOT plan on attending the Morning Tea or Send Off, please return those tickets so that we can reallocate to others.

Collect Your Cap and Gown

Pick up your Cap and Gown on Friday, May 12 from 11.15am to 1.15pm at Room 210. The Cap and Gown fee is 150RMB and acceptable forms of payment include cash, WeChat and Alipay.

If you did not attend a fitting in October, you will be able to choose your size on May 12.

Make Plans with Family and Guests

Provide your family and guests with commencement ceremony information and discuss with them the best time to visit you. If they are planning to stay for longer than commencement weekend, consider making arrangements together for the week after the ceremony, as the week before will be busy and you are likely to also want to attend farewell events with friends.

Visit the Career Development Center

Make a career counseling appointment to discuss the next steps in your professional development. As you prepare for the next stage of your life, the Career Development Center is there to support you, whether you are applying for jobs or considering graduate school. Find out more about networking events and career opportunities on their website, or email for advice.
